The Best Visualization Techniques

The Best Visualization Techniques… A Step-by-Step Guide + Tips

Visualization is one of the best and most powerful tools to turn you into the person who effortlessly and masterfully acts towards bringing his/her desires into reality.

In here, I am going to reveal to you the best visualization techniques that I have tried so far, with step by step instructions on how to practice them yourself, in order to start manifesting your desires like crazy!

However, before I go into the practices, I would like to let you get a glimpse at the immense power that is visualization.

The Immense Power of Visualization

Trust the You-niverse

If you are one of those people who are dead serious about changing how well you perform in life, practicing visualization is a must.

The visualization mechanism is already programmed into our human mind but we have not learned how to tame it… Instead, we have been using it unconsciously, for our entire life, during most of our waking hours, constantly visualizing about the wrong stuff.

Worrying, being anxious, fearing failure, assuming rejection, etc, are all instances of misdirected visualization and I can only assume that you are already aware of how much such states can hold you back in life.

What we are trying to achieve when practicing visualization is to slowly take control of this mechanism and use it consciously for our benefit.

Conscious visualization could entirely erase negative mental beliefs, self-limiting thoughts, and attitudes which hold you back and install the right thinking processes that will help you to act in the ways necessary to accomplish your desires.

Having said that, I will let you take a look at the best visualization techniques that I have tried so far and have greatly helped me change my state of being towards manifesting some of my desires.

Are you as psyched as I am?

Probably not but you are about to become!

3,2,1… Launch!

1 – Visioneering

Visioneering is a practice of mental rehearsal of future events, which anchors images of your yet unaccomplished desires, to positive emotions that you have experienced sometime in the past, through a visualization technique.

Its purpose is to program our subconscious mind to link those positive emotions with the desired goal in order to bring forth the desired goal into our reality in a faster and easier manner, and it’s going to work incredibly well compared to a basic visualization technique.

This specific practice is comprised of 4 steps and should be practiced 5-10 minutes a day to maximize results.

Those 4 steps are:

  • Calm your mind
  • Induce positive emotions
  • Envision your desire
  • Release

Step 1 – Calm Your Mind

Sit comfortably and close your eyes.

Relax your muscles, especially your shoulder and facial ones.

Turn your attention to your breathing.

Start inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly!

Do this for 5 breaths.

Step 2 – Induce Positive Emotions

Recall a past memory of yours where you felt truly happy, excited, powerful, peaceful, and live it again right now in great detail.

You may want to choose a memory of you achieving a past goal, or a memory of you falling in love.

Try to recreate the whole scene with as much detail as you possibly can.

You can pick whatever memory you want but remember that it has to be a memory which is carrying a huge load of positive emotions.

Try to live this memory very intensely. Picture it like you are there, living it again right now!

Do this for 2-4 minutes!

Step 3 – Envision Your Desire

Now, in the blink of an eye, bring into your mind a desire which you want to attain but haven’t attained yet.

For example, if you want an amazing car, create a picture of this car in your mind.

What color is it?

How does it smell?

How do you feel driving it around town and showing it to your friends and family?

How does it feel going to the gas station and filling it up?

Tie in sounds, smells, colors, feelings, tastes, literally, as many of all of your senses as you possibly can.

In other words, try to convince your mind that you have already bought the car and you are seeing it right now in front of you!

Step 4 – Release

This part will take only 5 seconds to complete but it is just as important as the rest of the session, so make sure that you never override it.

At the end of every single session, say the following out loud:

“I now allow myself to have (state your desire). So be it! It is already done.”

This phrase, affirms the goal and releases it.

Dwelling on something only creates mental doubt.

It is like telling your subconscious mind you don’t really believe it is possible to attain it.

By letting it go, you actually program into your subconscious mind the belief that you expect it to happen.

2 – Alternative Visualization

Alternative visualization is a technique I created to suit my own needs.

You see, every person’s experiences and perspectives are different from another’s, so it is very probable that each visualization technique is going to be effective for some people and not at all effective for others.

At some point, after having experimented with a number of visualization techniques myself, I became aware of what works best for me, and I scrapped some visualization techniques for parts, put those parts together, and created my very own super visualization!

I am currently using this technique and let me tell you that it feels quite effective to me so why don’t you give it a try?

Basically, during a …. visualization session, by inducing your imagination along with the help of some affirmations, you are trying to convince yourself that what you have been experiencing up until now was nothing but a dream, from which you have just woken up and realized that what you are experiencing right now is a reality exactly as desired by you!

Are you ready to practice?

Let’s roll!

Step 1 – Cultivating Some Peace

Close your eyes and sit or lie in a comfortable position.

Do a very quick body scan and make sure that every part of your body is relaxed, especially your shoulder and facial muscles.

Now, direct your attention to your breathing and start counting your exhalations, one by one.

After the fifth exhalation, start all over again from 1.

Do this for 15 exhalations(3 cycles of 5).

Step 2 – Going to Sleep

Envision that you are now lying on the most comfortable bed in the world.

You are completely relaxed and serene.

You fall asleep…

You see nothing but blackness.

Every cell of your body starts emanating a bright light until your entire body becomes nothing but light.

A golden, warm light, just like the sun’s, in the middle of this vast darkness.

Suddenly your light explodes outward, and in an instant, it completely engulfs all the darkness.

Step 3 – Waking up

You are opening your eyes(don’t actually open your eyes, just visualize it).

You are still on the comfortable bed, feeling truly refreshed and blissful.

You start looking around and you realize that you are inside a big, transparent glass room.

This room is floating through space so you are able to see all kinds of stars, planets, and galaxies!

At one side of the room, there is a door.

Get up, and walk towards that door.

Before opening that door, picture one thing you desire but haven’t attained yet.

At the other side of that door, there is a reality where your desire has already been fulfilled.

The moment that you open that door, this desire will be yours.

Take a deep breath and open that door!

Step 4 – Attaining Your Desire

You can now see this desire of yours standing before you.

You are just one step away from actually attaining it.

Take the step!

Imagine how it feels to finally have what you have been asking for, for a very long time.

It’s now yours!

The desire that you wanted to be fulfilled 5 minutes ago, before starting your visualization, has now been fulfilled.

Whatever that desire might be, it is yours right now!

See it, touch it, feel it, smell it, hear it, taste it!

Try to engage as many senses of yours as you can.

Step 5 – Affirming

When you can clearly see yourself having attained this which you desire, start affirming out loud the following:

  • I am so freaking grateful for having attained (state your desire)!
  • I finally got everything I wanted!
  • This is my reality right now and I am so grateful for it!

Repeat each affirmation at least 3 times.

After that, take 3 deep breaths and open your eyes.

You are done!

3 – Questioning Your Future Self Visualization

The Law of Vibes

I first learned about the power of asking the right questions in the Personal Power II, self-development program created by Tony Robins.

Tony Robins states that the questions you are asking yourself determine what your mind focuses on.

Your mind will do everything to answer the questions you consistently ask yourself.

The more you ask yourself a certain question, the more will your subconscious mind take every possible form of input and compose an answer to this question.

Those answers might come in the form of verbal answers, experiences, situations, opportunities, gut feelings, ‘aha’ moments, etc.

In this technique, we are trying to leverage the power of asking the right questions along with some visualization in order for our subconscious mind to unfold what is necessary to bring us closer to attaining our desires.

This practice is composed of 3 steps:

  • Regulating the Mind
  • Meeting with the Future Self
  • Asking Questions

Step 1 – Regulating the Mind

Take 5 deep breaths, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly through your nose.

Direct your attention to the area between your eyebrows (third eye).

Try to keep your attention fixed there for as long as you can.

When your attention wanders away from this area (which it will), gently bring it back to it.

After directing your attention back to your third eye for 5 times, move on to the next step.

Step 2 – Meeting with Your Future Self

Picture yourself sitting in the middle of an extremely quiet, very bright, white room.

Suddenly, another person walks into the room and comes to stand before you, just staring at you.

You realize that this person is yourself one year from now.

A desire that has yet to be attained by you in the now, has already been attained by your future self one year from now.

Notice how blissful, confident, serene, and grateful is your future self.

Your future self won’t talk to you…

He/she is just waiting for you to start asking questions.

Step 3 – Askfirmations

Start asking your future successful self, questions in order to gain insight of how he/she achieved specific things.

Some example questions might be:

  • How did I manage to finally attain (state one of your desires)?
  • How did I turn out to be so lucky?
  • What did it take to become this blissful/serene/confident/content?
  • How does it feel having attained all that I desire?

It’s better to ask yourself questions on how you achieved something positive and not on how you overcame something negative.

For example, try avoiding questions like:

  • How did I stop being unlucky?
  • What did it take to stop being a failure?
  • How did I get out of (stating a specific awful situation)?

The answers are already inside you and your future self who has already attained what you want to attain right now is going to help you uncover those answers and finally attain it.

You don’t really have to wait for your future self to answer your questions at that time.

The answers will come to you slowly and at the right time.

They might come to you during your regular day, in a dream, or while visualizing.

Nevertheless, you need not dwell on those questions nor on their answers.

The answers will definitely come eventually.

4 – Quantum Jumping

Quantum jumping is one the best visualization techniques available nowadays.

It is founded on the projection that there exist an infinite amount of alternate Universes which are running simultaneously with our own and that inside each one of those Universes, there exist alternate versions of you who are experiencing a different life than you are currently experiencing.

During a Quantum Jumping session, you picture yourself visiting one of those alternate Universes and gain insights, wisdom, and experiences from alternate versions of yourself who have already attained exactly what you desire but haven’t attained yet in this reality.

Before going into the practice, make sure that you watch the video below to gain a better understanding of this awesome visualization technique!

The Quantum Jumping Practice

Step 1 – Relaxation

  • Take a very deep breath and while breathing out visualize the number 3.
  • Take another deep breath and while breathing out visualize the number 2.
  • Take one last deep breath and while breathing out visualize the number 1.

After that, start picturing that you are on a beach, on a very remote island, all by yourself.

You are sitting on the shore, right where the waves are crashing on its bright golden sand.

You can’t hear anything but the sound of the waves.

Now, create a mental image of yourself sitting there, being hit by the calm waves, just being, doing nothing…

Do this for about 30 seconds.

Now take your hand, and with your index finger write on the sand the number 10.

Then, envision a wave coming forth and erasing the number from the sand.

Afterwards, do what you did with the number 10 for all the numbers down to 0.

By the time you reach zero, you will have attained a deep sense of relaxation and have come to be the mover of your mind.

Step 2 – Affirming

Now imagine, that a bright, white, warm light is engulfing you, permeating your whole being.

Inside this light, you are experiencing feelings of safety and security.

Nothing can hurt you while inside this light. You are impervious to everything negative!

While inside the light, start affirming the following:

  • Every day, I am getting closer and closer to attaining my dreams.
  • Every moment, I improve every aspect of my life, by being my unique self.
  • Each day, I am becoming a better version of myself!

Repeat each affirmation for 3 times.

Step 3 – Finding the Door

After finishing with the affirmations, you suddenly find yourself standing at the top of a stairway.

There are 15 steps which lead down to a small hallway.

At the end of the hallway, there is a huge, wooden, carved door.

The door is closed.

You slowly start descending the stairway, one step at a time and you start heading towards the large closed door.

Now, you are standing right before this door.

At the other side of this door, there is an infinite amount of parallel Universes.

There is a Universe containing a version of you who is wealthy and abundant, a Universe whereas you have met the love of your life, and yet another Universe in which you have a healthy, athletic body.

Anything that can be imagined by you, is on the other side of that door.

Before opening the door, ask yourself the following question 3 times:

“What needs to be done to attain (state one of your desires)?”

Step 4 – Opening the Door and Merging

Open the door!

Before you, an infinite amount of Universes, floating like bubbles in nothingness.

Picture yourself jumping inside the Universe whereas you alter ego has already attained the desire which you stated before opening the door.

From now on, you are just observing your parallel self.

Every picture popping in your head is exactly what you are supposed to be viewing.

Don’t try to manipulate the images or the experience.

Whatever you see, allow it to come and let it be.

Take your time and just observe the scene, don’t interfere, just be there.

You don’t have to correct anything.

Stay there, observing your other self for about 3-4 minutes.

Whenever you want, go back to the small hallway and see the quantum door closing after you.

Take 5 deep breaths, open your eyes.

Your visualization session is now complete!

Go ahead and practice a guided quantum jumping visualization session with the video below right now!

The Keys to Mastering Visualization

Key 1 – Feelings

During visualization, what you are basically trying to do, is bring and hold into your mind images of a specific desire of yours.

The truth is that the images by themselves will probably do little to no good at all.

It’s not the images that you mentally create those which will bring you closer to your desired reality, but rather the feelings that you have tied with those specific images.

For example, when one of your desires is to attain more money, you don’t just actually want more pieces of paper with printed numbers on them, but rather what those pieces of paper can offer you.

Your ultimate goal is to attain the feelings which you have associated with having more money and such feelings might be, freedom, power, peace of mind, confidence, etc.

This is equally true for each one of your desires.

Every desire of yours has been chosen by you as a way to make you feel a specific way.

The reason that I am telling you this is to realize that to fully utilize the power of visualization, you absolutely need to start tying positive feelings to your currently unattained desires, and preferably the feelings that you would feel if you had already attained that which you desire.

The images that you are trying to hold in your mind during a visualization session are just a means to induce such feelings.

Picturing your desire without actually assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled, is the fallacy and mirage of mankind. It is simply futile day-dreaming.~The Power of Awareness by Neville Goddard

It’s true that even if you create no mental picture in your mind’s eye and all you do is induce and dwell on a certain feeling, you will tend to attract toward you situations and experiences matching this exact feeling.

The emotions, or the “feeling” portion of thoughts, are the factors which give thoughts vitality, life, and action.~Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Always put feeling into your visualization practices as it is one of the main keys towards making the most of your time spent visualizing.

Key 2 – Consistency

The second key to mastering visualization is to be consistent with your practice.

To master any skill you have to consistently repeat it.

Use creative visualization often.

Make it a regular part of your life.

The more times you mentally run a pattern through your mind the easier it will become to replay it and eventually become a part of your physical reality.

It’s important to remember that visualization is like a muscle.

The more you practice, the better you will get at it.

Most people seem to find that it works best to practice it at least a little every day, especially when they are beginners.

It’s far more beneficial to have 5-minute daily visualization sessions than having weekly 3-hour ones.

For maximum results, you need to be practicing visualization for 5 minutes a day at least!

Eventually, you will be able to do longer visualizations, practice more consistently, add a lot more sensual detail – and even imagine far greater success than you may allow yourself to imagine right now.

Key 3 – Persistence

Persistence is the key to mastering any kind of activity, mental, physical or spiritual.

Whatever you do in life if you don’t reach the point where it has become a part of your very being, taking place automatically and with almost no effort, you haven’t yet mastered it.

This applies to visualization as well.

If you are not still able to become consumed by the feelings of attaining your desire during your daily life, then you haven’t visualized about it enough or maybe you aren’t visualizing about it”the right way”.

It takes dedication to start manifesting awesome results.

This is the point where many people struggle with.

They visualize for one or two weeks but give up quickly as they haven’t gotten what they desire.

Be patient and stick with your practice, then you’ll see results.

Basically, every single visualization technique is helping you in 4 ways:

  1. Visualization literally installs a “preferred future” into the brain as if it existed in the present moment. Our subconscious mind cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imagined and that’s why the images that we consciously create during a visualization are interpreted by our brain as real-life experiences. This way, our brain becomes hard-wired with those images, creating impulses to start acting according to those images.
  2. It is reinforcing your belief that what you are after can actually be attained at some point. Believing that what you are after can be attained, is what will keep you going.
  3. It takes your attention away from what you are currently lacking and shifts it towards what you could have.
  4. It manages to slowly detach you from the desire. Being detached from the desire is a powerful and rewarding attitude, as being impatient or worrying about never achieving your desire can only hold you back and even prevent you from actually attaining this specific desire.

While visualization is a powerful manifesting tool, it only comes as a mental aid while acting towards manifesting your desires as well.

People have been misguided into believing that if they keep practicing visualization without taking any other action, all their desires will be magically attracted to them.

Those people are doomed to fail.

Creative visualization is powerful, but it cannot create results without actions that earn them, and it will never replace hard work and practice.

However, when combined with diligent and continuous effort, it is a powerful way to achieve positive, behavioral change and create the life you desire.

This is the difference between effectively visualizing positive results and sloppily fantasizing.

Work in the real world must be done in line with your visualizations in order to reach new heights of success.

This routine is very mind opening. It really feels like I am inside a giant space while I am only a tiny speck of dust observing things from within. While I practiced your routine, many negative past experiences popped up, but I slowly looked at each image carefully and thought about how I would’ve solved it nowadays. As I continue visualizing the golden light, I feel warm with positive energy. I am still not very good at visualizing my goal being accomplished in front of me yet, but I feel much more confident. Very inspiring. Thank you. Do you practice this every single day?

      October 18, 2017

      Hey Bill,

I am very happy that you tried one of the techniques outlined in here.

What you said about your past negative experiences actually made me realize that I have a very long time to be haunted by my own past experiences.

I guess that the more you visualize about a better future the less will your bad past keep coming after you.

As for your ability to practice, believe me that you will get better… No person started as a pro, visualizing perfect images of their desires at day one and manifesting those desires at day two.

It takes time but the more you practice the better you will become at it.

I actually try to practice every morning 20 minutes after waking up, for at least 10 minutes.

Some days I skip it but that’s okay 😛

It’s so true what you said- we have spent the better time of our lives on visualizing on the wrong things like worrying, and getting all stressed and anxious

You have outlined some cool techniques that allows one to harness the power of visualization. I like the fact, that these are all practical and one can start it off immediately.

I can see that I have to try out these different techniques, and see which one works out for me.
I like the future self technique, that is a cool one.

I know the part that I will struggle the most, will be ‘to be consistent’ I tend to never see things till the end.I am going to sincerely give this go……

I have saved your page as I will be referring to it on a more regular basis. Thanks so much for the awesome help.

    Much Appreciated

      Dear Roopesn,

Consistency is a must. It is what will help you make the practice a habit.

After an amount of time of consistent practicing you will almost feel compelled to practice even more.

You are always welcome back to my page… You could also subscribe if you want in order to be notified each time something new and even more interesting is posted 🙂

You know this is something I definitely can use. I have heard of visioneering, well not the term, but the concept. My son did competitive gymnastics for 15 years, and his coach always told him to run the routine thru his mind before he competed, how it would look perfectly, to visualize it. It tremendously helps! I never thought to use this myself. I can see, knowing what it did for him, that this will help me as well. I am going to give it a try! I also like the idea of questioning your future self visualization. Which one do you find works best, or is it a combination?

    1. Xaric
      October 18, 2017

Everyone could benefit from consciously visualizing.

The answer to your question is actually inside this article “every person’s experiences and perspectives are different from another’s, so it is very probable that each visualization technique is going to be effective for some people and not at all effective for others.”

Start with a visualization the captured your attention in any way, stick with it for an amount of time, such as 2-4 weeks and then try a different one for the same amount of time.

After trying 4-5 different techniques, you will know which one works the best for you!

Questioning is very powerful and extremely easy so you might as well start with this one.

      Happy visualizing 🙂

    Hi There,

How it is informative articles and fill of unique information about visualization and its impact at our life.
It just came to my mind when i was reading Think and grow rich by Napoleon Hill and his view about this topics.
In fact it is one of the most important inherent skills that are able to improve and enhance in the way which will support you and help you to achieve your goals in life.

      Hey Haitham,

I am actually going through the Think and Grow Rich for the second time right now.

This book is a revelation and it covers a lot of ground  on the subject of visualization and its importance…

Great Site! I read “Psycho Cybernetics” by Maxwell Maltz when I was nineteen (about a million years ago) and learned early on that there is a great deal more to this life/world than what appears on the surface. You have some very good techniques here–and some I’ve never seen before. Best of Luck!

      Hey Bruce!

      Thanks for your uplifting words!
What unfolds on the surface is a result of what works beneath it 😉

By the way, I just added Psycho-Cybernetics in my “to Read” list.

      Thank you for the recommendation!

thank you for your post Xaric
I really loved the visualization, I tried this technique and I can really see already how it would benefit.
I am a golfer and need to use visualization and I don’t. This good really be useful to me. Also for my job prospects.
When I visualize I can only see a week picture does visualization get stronger with practice?

    1. Xaric
      October 21, 2017

      Dear Paul,

Many professional athletes are constantly using visualization.

According to research, visualization works because neurons in our brains, interpret the mental images that we induce as equivalent to a real-life action.

This means that when we visualize an act, the brain generates an impulse that tells our neurons to “perform” the movement.

Legendary golf player Jack Nicklaus, practiced each shot in his mind many times before taking it, and that’s what made him legendary!

Visualization does get stronger, the more you practice it, just like any other activity, mental or physical.

Just try it for 2-4 weeks and you will become aware of the difference yourself 🙂
